Just as the world of consoles seemed to be falling apart, a semi-official reveal has come to save the day like a knight in shining armor, and it says that the next generation of PlayStation might not go completely discless after all.
In an interview via KiwiTalks on YouTube, Shawn Layden, a former PlayStation executive, revealed how Sony might be planning some other things than what the general audience expects of them. This includes not taking the PlayStation 6 completely discless for a few reasons.
Layden also talks about how Xbox has had some success in pursuing this path, which might be a direct reference to the success of the Xbox Game Pass and other similar services Microsoft tends to offer with their whole gaming ecosystem.
Moreover, the former executive also revealed how a chunk of the market, including athletes and the military, likes to travel around with their consoles. Sony would ultimately be cutting this part of their audience off if they chose to go discless as these agents don't usually have internet access all the time as they are on the go.
