Electronic Arts has unexpectedly removed Denuvo from Immortals of Aveum. While DRM removal usually translates to smoother gameplay, this one might not be the performance fix you’ve been looking forward to.
Immortals of Aveum’s recent update 1.0.6.6 officially stripped down Denuvo about a year and a half after the game's release. The removal comes on the heels of older titles experiencing a rollback of this controversial anti-tamper tech. Classic examples freed from this tech’s grasp in recent months include Tekken 7, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
DRM-Free Immortals of Aveum
After the Immortals of Aveum update, the executable file size shrunk by around 300MB, which is a promising sign for load times. However, the game’s sticking points, including frame rates and stuttering issues, may remain. Devs acknowledge that these issues stem from the IP’s development, so may persist even in the DRM-free version.
Nonetheless, EA seems determined to explore uncharted waters when it comes to addressing performance issues. The developer is not known to ditch Denuvo, and the latest move sparks hope that more of its games could follow suit.
