As a diehard Fire Emblem fan, it was great to see how the Switch used the franchise and expanded it in various ways. While not every title was “groundbreaking,” all of them sold well, further cementing the RPG series as one of the premiere AAA titles that Nintendo can bust out to move units. With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 this year, we’re definitely getting a new entry in the franchise; it’s just a matter of when…and “which one.” After all, the Switch showed off three of the four “kinds” of titles you can get with this series.
Let’s start at the beginning. The first entry on Switch wasn’t a mainline game, but Fire Emblem Warriors. Admittedly, it was the weakest of the set, but it did well enough to warrant a much better sequel…though, it was still a grind to get through. The “peak” entry was Three Houses, which was so beloved it won “Game of the Year” during the fan vote at The Game Awards. It is the best-selling game in the series, and many want a true follow-up to that. Instead, we got Fire Emblem Engage, which was a more “casual” entry in the series...
