A fatal bug surrounding in-app purchases has forced Square Enix to shut down the iOS version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. The remaster of the spinoff FF title was released in 2020, when it became available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and mobile devices. Now, it seems the iOS players will not be able to access the game anymore thanks to a coding issue originating from an update made by Apple, according to Square Enix's explanation.

According to a blog on the Final Fantasy website (originally spotted by The Verge), the company had been receiving player reports starting on January 24 from people making in-app purchases but not receiving their items. As a result, Square Enix has decided to delist FF Crystal Chronicles from the iOS store and is offering refunds for eligible players who request them.

According to Square Enix, the bug affecting the Crystal Chronicles remaster was caused by changes made by Apple to the way in-app purchases work.
