Bounty Battle Is Like Super Smash Bros. for Indie Games

on | OpenCritic

During today's Nintendo Indie Showcase, Bounty Battle was revealed by Merge Games and developer Dark Screen Games. The 2D indie brawler pits more than 20 fighters from all over the indie games landscape in a bout to determine the age-old question, 'who would win in a fight?'

Featured in the brawler at launch are characters from beloved indie games like Dead Cells, Psychonauts, SteamWorld Dig, Owlboy, and more. The game will allow 1-4 player modes on Switch, Xbox, PS4, and PC. Levels will be based on settings from the various games featured in the massive indie mash-up. For now, there's no confirmed release date but the publisher said to expect it to arrive this summer. You can check out the reveal trailer below and see if your favorite indie hero is featured.

In case you missed them all amid the chaos, here's the full launch roster of games being featured in Bounty Battle:

  • Guacamelee!
  • Darkest Dungeon
  • Dead Cells
  • Awesomenauts
  • Nuclear Throne
  • Owlboy
  • Axiom Verge
  • SteamWorld Dig
  • Oddmar
  • Jotun
  • Battle Chasers Nightwar
  • Death’s Gambit
  • EITR
  • Super Comboman
  • Pankapu
  • Flinthook
  • Doko Roko
  • Tower of Samsara
  • Blubber Busters
  • Ruin of the Reckless
  • The Bug Butcher
  • Blocks that Matter

The game will feature a story mode, local multiplayer, and practice modes. Each character also has their own unique minion to summon too, bringing the total number of crossover characters even higher.

There's no word yet on whether the game will expand its roster post-launch, but it seems such plans would make a good fit for a game that could become a new home for indie crossovers.
