In the past few years, Sony has been ramping up its PlayStation first-party games production on PC, with some games even releasing simultaneously on PlayStation devices.
This initiative of porting PlayStation games to PC was something former PlayStation president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida wanted to do sooner. However, Sony's business model at the time didn't align with this vision.
PlayStation PC Ports Were Originally Planned To Target China
In an interview on the Sacred Symbols podcast (via Push Square), Yoshida discussed why he wanted to push Sony to release PlayStation games on PC. "Releasing on PC does many things: it reaches a new audience who do not own consoles – especially in regions where consoles are not as popular. The idea is that those people may become fans of a particular franchise, and when a new game in that series comes out, they may be convinced to purchase a PlayStation," explains Yoshida.
