A recent Genshin Impact chart has highlighted the massive character drought for Mondstadt since Version 1.5, but there may be a specific reason as to why. When Genshin Impact launched in September 2020, it only had two regions to offer – Mondstadt and Liyue. While the former served its purpose as a prologue to the larger world of Teyvat, the latter has received numerous map expansions and characters over the years.
The idea of a Mondstadt map expansion in Genshin Impact existed as both a theory and a rumor for years but never quite came to fruition. While the developers have teased Varka and Dornman Port across character stories and in-game lore, the lack of any Mondstadt content has caused players to feel like the region was abandoned in favor of newer ones (such as Inazuma). Version 5.4 is certainly an Inazuma patch through and through, adding a new 5-Star character to the playable cast and featuring a Flagship Event centered around the region and its characters.
Charlotte’s anticipated rerun in Genshin Impact’s 5.4 update will be cause for celebration, though it still doesn’t address the elephants in the room.
