Monster Hunter Wilds is making dozens of changes to one of Capcom's most beloved franchises. Hitstop is being reworked, there are tons of new monsters, four weapons are undergoing some major adjustments, and the game is transitioning to an open-world formula.

Unfortunately, one thing that isn't changing is the paywalled character customization. Confirmed last week, players will only be able to edit their character and Palico once for free before having to pay to change things. Naturally, this hasn't gone down well with prospective players.

Paywalled character customization is nothing new in the world of Monster Hunter. All of the series' most recent titles, World, Iceborne, and Rise, have featured Character Edit Tokens, so their addition in Wilds should come as no surprise. However, with the Monster Hunter franchise one of the only ones to pull this type of thing, fans were hoping things would be different this time around. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

If a recent thread on the Monster Hunter subreddit is representative, then it's safe to say that the game's future audience is not happy with things.
