After nearly a full year of updates, Super Mario Maker 2 will receive its final free update this Thursday, April 22.
The new update goes out with a bang by adding a brand new world-building mode in addition to introducing new course parts among other features. With the new world-builder mode, players can string together several of their custom levels to form a world, just like the Super Mario games have done for decades. The world map's visual style can also be altered. Collectively, 40 levels across eight worlds can be combined to create something akin to brand new Super Mario games from the bustling community of creators.
New elements also come by way of things like the Super Mario Bros. 2 mushroom which gives characters a makeover fitting of that game while enabling players to pick up and throw items as they could in the game. The Frog Suit, meanwhile, allows players the ability to swim through water or run across its surface, as they once did in the revered Super Mario Bros. 3.
More power-ups new to Super Mario Maker 2 come by way of items all across the Super Mario chronology, including the Power Balloon first introduced in Super Mario World, the Super Acorn from New Super Mario Bros. U and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D World.
The free update can be downloaded beginning this Wednesday, April 22. If you're sad to see support end for this Super Mario experience, find solace in the reliable rumor that Nintendo has a bevy of new Super Mario surprises in store for this year, including several remasters spanning the series' long history as well as new games starring the red and blue plumber and friends.
