Split Fiction is off to a monumental start, reaching the top of the UK physical game sales chart less than a week after its release. Developer Hazelight Studios struck gold with its last title, It Takes Two, which ended up selling tens of millions of copies and nabbing Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021. That leaves Split Fiction with some massive shoes to fill, but it's managed to live up to that legacy so far.

Hazelight's latest effort has been a remarkable success, not only for the studio itself but for its parent company. By reaching a 91 on Metacritic, Split Fiction broke a 13-year-old dry spell for EA, which hadn't published a title that received a 90 or above since Mass Effect 3 came out in 2012. Now that sales figures are starting to come in from the game's first calendar week on the market, it looks like it's made an impression on gamers, not just critics.
