Grand Theft Auto 6's imminent release reportedly has video game publishers considering delaying their games slated to release in the same period. It's fair to say that Rockstar's upcoming open-world game is the most anticipated title of 2025: Fans have waited for a new GTA for over a decade, and the 2023 announcement trailer only increased the excitement. With the video game industry being as competitive as it is, it stands to reason that developers would want to make room for such a highly anticipated title.
According to The Game Business, multiple high-profile publishers admitted that they're willing to push back their upcoming titles to avoid competing with GTA 6. One studio boss went so far as to describe GTA 6 as a catastrophic event for release schedules:
GTA 6 is basically a huge meteor and we will just stay clear of the blast zone. We will nudge our releases back or forward three weeks to avoid it.
