The Writer of Dead Space Is Teasing a New Game, But It's Not a New Dead Space

Antony Johnston, the writer behind Dead Space, has strongly hinted that hs next game will be revealed at the PlayStation Future of Gaming Event this week.

"As some of you know, I’ve been working on a big videogame for almost 2 years now, said the writer on Twitter. "In totally unrelated news, you should all watch the PS5 launch event on Thursday." The tease got some fans very excited for the prospect of a new Dead Space game, which has been left dormant by EA since the third game in the series launched in 2013.

Sadly, there's no reason to expect it's a new Dead Space game. For one, EA still owns the IP as far as anyone knows, and they've seemed quite comfortable sitting on it. On top of that, VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, who has recently flexed his industry connections with various teases and leaks, shot down the idea on Twitter. "I think everyone knows this already, but this isn't a Dead Space game. Everyone gets that, right?"

Johnston also wrote on projects like Binary Domain, a Gears-like sci-fi shooter from the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation, as well as the comic book The Coldest City (adapted into the film Atomic Blonde), as well as co-creating Wasteland and writing on some Marvel comics too. With this body of work, it feels safe to expect a science fiction project of some kind will be revealed tomorrow with Johnston attached to it, but we likely won't know anything more until then, barring another leak.

The PlayStation 5 "Future of Gaming" event kicks off at 1 pm Pacific tomorrow on the brand's social channels. It's expected the company will reveal first looks at upcoming PS5 games but they're not not ready to reveal the price of the console.
