EA has officially revealed Star Wars: Squadrons, which will come out later this year.
EA has officially announced Star Wars: Squadrons, an upcoming dog fighting title releasing later this year (via IGN). The game is being developed by Motive Studios, and will support cross-platform play. It will also support VR for both the PlayStation 4 and PC. A teaser trailer for the game was released, and can be seen here.
Squadrons will have a single-player mode that will take place after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The game will put players in the shoes of two pilots on both sides of the game's conflict. One pilot belongs to the New Republic's Vanguard Squadron, while the other flies for the Galactic Empire's Titan Squadron. The two pilots will be customizable, with both new and familiar faces from the Star Wars universe showing up.
Squadrons' multiplayer modes will be 5v5 events. Two game modes have been announced so far: Fleet Battles and Dogfights. Fleet Battles has each team destroying their opponents flagship. Dogfights, on the other hand, has each team destroying as many enemies as possible. While most locations for these space battles have not been announced yet, we do know that Yavin Prime will be one of the battlefields. All upgrades that players can use are earned through gameplay, with customization options including weapons, hulls and shields. Players will also be able to customize their pilot and cockpit.
More of Star Wars: Squadrons will be shown at the EA Play event, which will take place on June 18th. The showcase will take place at 4 p.m. PST, and will unveil a number of new titles that are being published by the company.
Star Wars: Squadrons will release on October 2nd for $39.99. The game will release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There is no word at the moment on whether or not the game will come to the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X.
