It's official, Gears of War is releasing on PlayStation. The flagship, gory third-person shooter series was instrumental in the Xbox 360's success, and has been closely associated with Microsoft's gaming division as a brand for nearly two decades, yet the series is making a bold step onto the PS5. The original Gears of War trilogy was helmed by Epic Games, but its more recent entries, including the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day prequel, have been products of The Coalition, part of Xbox Game Studios.
Announced via Xbox Wire and even the official PlayStation Twitter account, Gears of War: Reloaded sees the original title from 2006 remastered for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is releasing on August 26, 2025, priced at $39.99 and releasing on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one. Gears of War was already remastered as the Ultimate Edition in 2015, and any Xbox users who own that version will get a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. This new remaster "supports cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms," according to Xbox Wire.
