There's been a lot of discussion recently over the price of video games. Most agree that it started when Nintendo decided that they were going to make select Nintendo Switch 2 games, such as Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, cost $79.99.
Following that news, Microsoft made a major announcement: they're also raising prices. First-party games will now cost $79.99, and the consoles are also seeing a price increase.
Neither was the first company to raise prices this console generation, though. That would be Sony, which introduced the increased game price from $59.99 to $69.99 this generation.
It's fully expected that other publishers will follow suit and raise the price of their games, even though one of the most successful games of the year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is available for just $49.99. One major publisher, however, is refusing to do so.
