Former Dragon Age Lead Says BioWare's Biggest Issues With EA Go Back As Far As 2017

It’s common knowledge at this point that all has not been well between EA and BioWare for some time now, but it sounds like some issues go back at least as far as 2017.

Mark Darrah, former executive producer for the Dragon Age series who worked on the series for over 20 years until leaving BioWare in 2020, posted a video on his YouTube channel discussing how 2017 was a pivotal year for the company and its relationship with EA, as well as his own relationship with the company.

He describes how his Dragon Age team felt “jerked around” by EA as they were reassigned to assist with finishing Mass Effect Andromeda and then to Anthem, even as Dragon Age: The Veilguard was in development.

A Leadership Discontinuity

In late 2016 and early 2017, Darrah and other members of the Dragon Age development team were reassigned to help with finishing Mass Effect Andromeda, as can be seen by the presence of the Dragon Age Finaling team in that game’s credits.
