One of the co-creators of the classic SNES RPG Chrono Trigger, Yuji Horii, shared that he is "beginning to contemplate" a remake after seeing how many fan requests the game had received. Horii's statement came after rumors of a Chrono Trigger remake circulated on social media following a convention in Naples that he was at.

Originally released on the SNES in 1995, Chrono Trigger was designed by the "Dream Team" of Horii, Final Fantasy series producer and creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the late Dragon Ball manga author Akira Toriyama. Chrono Trigger is a time-traveling adventure that sees characters like Crono, Marle, and Lucca explore different historical periods in a desperate quest to avert a world-ending calamity. Chrono Trigger was praised for its turn-based battle system, multiple endings, and iconic soundtrack composed primarily by Yasunori Mitsuda, with contributions from Noriko Matsueda and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.
