Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will be receiving a console release in the near future, including a version for the Switch 2. While not seeing the same notoriety now as its early days, Virtua Fighter stands as one of the most impactful fighting game franchises in gaming history. Virtua Fighter was one of the first 3D fighting games and the series was a smash hit in its early days, becoming some of Sega's all-time best-selling arcade games. Now, the franchise's newest entry is making the jump to modern consoles.
The iconic Sega fighting game franchise saw its most recent numbered entry release in the mid-2000s, with Virtua Fighter 5 first hitting the arcades in 2006. The fifth Virtua Fighter was praised for its gameplay at the time and saw comparisons to other fighting game greats like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Soul Calibur 5. Sega has released several improved versions of the game in the years since, most recently launching Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. earlier this year as the game's first PC release. Sega is now bringing the newest version to consoles as well.
