Upcoming Virtua Fighter Project Reveals Classic Character Redesign

New details have been revealed about the upcoming Virtua Fighter project, including the return of series mainstay Wolf Hawkfield. Development team Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, of Yakuza fame, intends to bring its narrative expertise to the beloved characters of Virtua Fighter.

The newest game in the series does not have an official title yet, but publisher SEGA has been teasing it for years with vague hints and references. The most substantial update for the upcoming Virtua Fighter entry was a choreographed, in-engine teaser trailer first showcased in January 2025. Since then, anticipation for the halfway-dormant franchise has been at an all-time high.

Developers on Sega's Virtua Fighter series comments on bringing back the iconic fighting game and its competition with Street Fighter and Tekken.
