Footage from Retro Studios’ cancelled 3D platformer has surfaced online, and the video games community has mixed opinions on the uncovered gameplay. Retro Studios is an American-based developer and subsidiary of Nintendo, best known for its work on the Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong series, as well as its contribution to the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario Kart 7. Other cancelled games in the studio’s portfolio include Star Fox Armada, RPG Raven Blade, and an untitled The Legend of Zelda project.
When it comes to Retro Studios, all eyes are on the developer’s upcoming entry in the Metroid Prime series, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will give Samus psychic powers and a new suit. The upcoming action-adventure title will see the protagonist navigate a fight for survival on the planet Viewros and confront rival bounty hunter Sylux. The sequel was announced back in 2019, but a concrete release date is still to be confirmed for a 2025 launch.
If there's one game on the original Switch that would benefit greatly from a Switch 2 Edition port, it's Metroid Prime Remastered.
