Rust Has Bad News for PS4 and Xbox One Gamers

The developer of the hit survival game Rust has revealed that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will soon be delisted from online storefronts. Rust was first launched by Facepunch Studios on PC in 2018, but it received a console port in 2021 thanks to co-development with Double Eleven, giving players on Xbox One and PS4 a taste of its unique approach to survival gameplay.

Despite cutthroat competition from a number of new and established rivals in the survival game genre, Rust has proved to be an enduring success. In fact, Rust player counts on Steam hit record highs in January 2025, more than a decade after its original early access launch in 2013 (with the full version released in 2018). This cultivation of a loyal and growing player base is owed in part to Rust's aggressive, consistent update schedule. Even where updates were fairly minor, players that picked up Rust often had something new to look forward to, while the value proposition improved constantly for newer players, who had more and more content to choose from as the game aged.
