PlayStation Sells Less PS5 Consoles Than This Time Last Year While PSN Accounts Go Up

According to Sony's financial results, released on Wednesday, 1.7 million fewer PS5 consoles have been sold over the first three months of 2025 when compared to 2024's sales. However, there is some good news, as there are now six million more active PlayStation Network users since the same time period 12 months ago.

More Users, Less Console Sales

As the PS5 reaches its fifth year in November, sales have dropped since 2024's earnings over the first three months of 2025, ending in March 31, according to Gematsu. The PS5 did have some major launches in the first three months of 2024, however. They include the following:

2025 in comparison hasn't had as much of a riveting start to the year, but it has received Assassin's Creed Shadows, Civilization VII, and Wuthering Waves over the first three months.

Despite the lowering console sales, PS4 and PS5 software sales have gone up by 3.5 million units over the past year with 76.1 million copies of games sold in total for both platforms. 5.9 million of those are for first-party games, which has dropped significantly from Q1 2025's 12.3 million units.
