Publisher Konami has said that the commercial performance of Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is "extremely strong." Released in March 2025 on Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the Suikoden HD Remaster brings enhanced versions of the classic PS1 JRPGs Suikoden and Suikoden 2 to modern platforms.
In an age when developing a new original game takes longer and costs more, remakes and remasters of older titles are increasingly finding a place filling out the catalogs of new consoles. And while players often joke or complain about publishers and developers returning to the well, it's paying off in terms of commercial success. For example, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is already breaking sales records for 2025 despite being less than a month old. As it turns out, many older players seem to relish the chance to reconnect with a game they loved before in a new context, while newer players welcome the ability to play classics they missed on newer platforms or with enhanced features.
