Fans of horror and gore can get their hands on Dead Island 2 for free this week through the Epic Games Store. The game takes place about 15 years after the events of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, and pits players against zombies in a quarantined version of Los Angeles.
After years of being stuck in development limbo for over a decade, the title was finally released in 2023 to generally favorable reviews. This week, gamers can get Dead Island 2 for free on Epic Games as part of the platform's weekly free games program, alongside the horror puzzler Happy Game. Both games will be available to claim and download for free until May 22 at 11 a.m. local time, and free to keep forever once they've been added to your Epic Games account.
Dead Island 2 almost didn't happen, thanks to a development period plagued by issues. The game was originally announced in 2014, though at that point it had been in development for two years already. At that point, the IP was owned by Deep Silver, as the game's original developer, Techland, had already moved on to work on its own and create Dying Light.
