Take-Two Interactive has revealed that the Borderlands franchise has sold nearly 93 million copies since its inception. With the next game in the Borderlands series just a few months away, the recent numbers are a fascinating look at how successful it has been for the company over the years.
The first Borderlands game was released back in 2009, and was a massive shot in the arm for the looter-shooter genre. Gearbox's massive offering of weapons alongside its unique sense of humor and instantly recognizable cel-shaded graphics made it an instant hit, spawning two mainline sequels in 2012 and 2019. It has even spawned various spin-offs with Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands allowing the franchise to try new things to remain relevant over the years. At its heart, though, Borderlands is one of the best looter-shooter series ever made.
