"This Cute Image Is Actually Terrifying": Adorable Pokémon TCG Pocket Card Hides Unexpectedly Deep Lore

One of the cutest artworks in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket may actually be hiding a dark story about a nefarious, or potentially misunderstood, Pokémon. The digital version of the popular trading card game features new artwork, with new sets releasing even more frequently than the physical counterpart. Every new card artwork gives players a brand-new look at their favorite Pokémon from throughout the franchise's history.

Among the familiar faces to get a new full-art illustration card is Driftloon, the purple balloon Pokémon. The image is very cute, at least on the surface, but Reddit user edwardsdavid913 has pointed out that underneath the serene exterior may lurk a more "terrifying" scenario. According to its Pokédex entries, the Psychic- and Ghost-type Driftloon is said to spirit away unsuspecting children. "If you were reading a book, and a Drifloon is floating up to you," explains the Redditor, "it's not a cute harmless Pokémon... it's literally trying to kill you."
