Capcom Reveals Plans to Expand Game Development

Breaking the recent industry trends of scaling back and reducing workforces, Capcom has announced that it is planning to expand its game development capacity with the construction of new offices in Osaka, set to open in 2027 and house hundreds of new employees. Capcom has found continued success with remakes of classic franchises and sequels to beloved IPs, but many have been pleasantly surprised to hear a major company wanting to prioritize efforts for future expansion.

Audiences are likely familiar with the ongoing pattern of major layoffs at video game companies that first started in the summer of 2023 and have continued through 2025. Numerous variables ranging from economic changes after Covid-19 to refocusing efforts on smaller teams and fewer projects have led to both AAA and indie companies seeing their development capabilities reduced. In spite of this unfortunate trend, Capcom has just announced a massive effort to grow its workforce, sparking optimism among industry professionals and gaming fans.
