GameStop has announced that it will offer customers 20% more trade-in value on the Switch 1 just by showing a Nintendo Switch 2 purchase receipt, regardless of which retailer Nintendo's new console was bought from. The GameStop trade-in offer for showing a Switch 2 receipt is valid for both regular customers and GameStop Pro members.

The GameStop offer came just a day after the retailer made headlines for an unfortunate reason. During the Switch 2's global launch, customers reported that a GameStop store in New York damaged some Switch 2 units due to receipts being stapled to the front of the packaging and puncturing both the box and the console's screen. Affected Switch 2 buyers shared pictures of the damage inflicted by the stapled receipts, although the damage was limited to customers who had purchased from just one store. GameStop and Nintendo subsequently offered replacement Switch 2 units to all affected customers for free.
