Hollow Knight: Silksong received a special mention at the Summer Game Fest 2025, but it wasn't what fans were expecting. The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Metroidvania Hollow Knight has been teasing fans with a release for months, following a several-year-long silence from the development studio Team Cherry. The game was finally announced for a 2025 release a few months back, and since then, the community has been waiting for a new trailer, a release date, or simply more information about the sequel.

Many expected the Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday to reveal a trailer or release date for Silksong. However, instead of dropping new footage, the Fest name-dropped Silksong in a completely unexpected way, in relation to the upcoming Deadpool VR game. In a Discord discussion, Team Cherry's marketing lead Matthew "Leth" Griffin admitted that the studio had no idea the game was going to be mentioned.

This weekend, the Silksong Subreddit is full of memes showing Deadpool getting brutally killed, replacing the Silksong protagonist Hornet in screenshots, or otherwise interacting with the game.
