After years of leaks and rumors, the Harry Potter RPG has been revealed as Hogwarts Legacy, set in the expansive Wizarding World franchise. Hogwarts Legacy is due in 2021 for current- and next-gen platforms include, PS4, PS5 and the Xbox family of devices, as well as PC.
Hogwarts Legacy is described as "an open-world, single-player, action" RPG where players can "live the unwritten." The game will allow players to create their own characters and enroll in Hogwarts, living out life as a witch or wizard. As was rumored, the game comes from Avalanche Software (not to be confused with Avalanche Studios of Just Cause fame) and Warner Bros. under the new Portkey Games label, dedicated to expanding the Wizarding World IP into games. You can see it in action in the reveal trailer.
It sounds like the Sorting Hat won't get the final say on the type of person you become as players will make choices throughout the game to define who they are. Here's more description from the team:
Hogwarts Legacy is filled with immersive magic, putting players at the center of their adventure to become the witch or wizard they choose to be. They will grow their character’s abilities as they master powerful spells, hone combat skills and select companions to help them face off against deadly enemies. Players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for.
No firm launch date has yet been revealed, but we'll be sure to Accio more details in due time.
