Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Never Considered To Not Be First-Person, Devs Confirm

When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was announced, most Xbox gamers saw it as the answer to Sony's Uncharted franchise.

But when we saw our first look at gameplay, a good number of people (including this guy) were surprised it was from a first-person perspective.

As it turns out, developer MachineGames never even considered anything outside a first-person experience.

Speaking to Games Radar at a Develop:Brighton talk, MachineGames design director Jens Andersson mentioned how first-person "was a given for us" when it comes to developing The Great Circle. Andersson added, "there was no choice for us, we love that perspective. It's a great way of telling stories. If you're going to be Indiana Jones, you need to look through his eyes, you need to feel like him."

Of course, the fact that MachineGames' previous releases were all in first-person might have factored in that decision as well. However, having played and finished the game, using a first-person perspective definitely worked in MachineGames' favor. I would have never guessed platforming and swinging from your whip would be intuitive even in first-person, since we're used to navigating environmental puzzles...
