Judging by its launch-day numbers on Steam, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is really struggling to gather an audience, although that might not come as a surprise to most fans.
Over the past few years, games like Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero (and really most DBZ games), Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, and Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles have proven that anime gaming adaptations have simply never been better. That's not a universal truth, though, which is something that Hunter x Hunter fans have discovered this week.
Hunter x Hunter: Nen X Impact’s excellent tag-fighting just about makes up for its awkward presentation and low-budget story mode.
Last year, it was revealed that Eighting, the team behind Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was making a Hunter x Hunter tag-fighting game. That sounded exciting, but the gameplay reveals showed that Nen x Impact was significantly lower-budget than most figured, especially with an asking price of $60. It seems that reputation hasn't managed to leave Nen x Impact's side now that it's released.
