Ever since Cyberpunk 2077 launched, players have had a ton of requests. Some of those have actually been realised, with the usable metro system and a portable radio. However, one of these would be a much larger undertaking: a third-person camera mode.
Alas, it looks like anyone waiting on this shouldn't get their hopes up. A fan asked the social media team if we're going to get third-person in a future Cyberpunk 2077 update, and the answer is pretty definitive: there are no plans for this right now.
What is interesting about this response is that it isn't ruling out further updates down the line (one of which may have already been teased), but it does make it clear that the devs aren't working on a third-person perspective as part of potential updates.
It's easy to see why. Everything in the game, from traversal to conversation to combat, was designed with first-person in mind. Even if conversations with NPCs locked us into first person, that could be jarring, since V is able to leave most conversations by just walking away, so the camera would be zooming in and out depending on our proximity to an NPC. Then,...
