Dragon Age as a series is almost assuredly dead. It's not been confirmed, but it was always considered the black sheep in EA's catalog of franchises, and the underwhelming performance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has undoubtedly made it near impossible for BioWare to try and seek funding for a new title. It's all steam ahead with Mass Effect now, with Dragon Age as a series left in limbo.
However, we might actually want to count our blessings that we got four Dragon Age games in the first place. That's because, according to former Dragon Age lead Mark Darrah, the first game in the series - Dragon Age: Origins - wasn't actually developed with the intention of kicking off a huge RPG franchise.
Darrah dropped this bombshell in an interview by YouTuber MrMattyPlays (thanks PC Gamer), in which he claims that Dragon Age: Origins was originally intended to be a standalone game. He goes on to point out certain plot threads in Origins that were just abandoned as proof of this, such as the werewolves in the Brecilian Forest, or the internal leadership conflict in Orzammar.
We never really got any meaningful updates on these events because updates were never...
