Kickstarter Campaign To Make Penny Blood Fails To Find A Publisher, So Its Devs Have Written A Novel Instead

Three years ago, a joint Kickstarter campaign was announced with the dual purpose of funding the spiritual successors to not one, but two, cult-classic JRPG series. Both projects were being spearheaded by their original directors. It was a cause of great excitement among many, myself included. The campaign was fully funded. Production got underway in earnest. Things have been bleak ever since.

Armed Fantasia is the Wild Arms successor. A recent update suggests development is moving at a glacial pace, but at least it's moving. As for Penny Blood - that's Shadow Hearts' successor - their publisher ditched them, their spinoff game largely went unnoticed, and now, they've resorted to writing a novel with their own money in the hopes of courting a replacement publisher and further funding.

In their first campaign update in nearly five months, Armed Fantasia's Scenario Director, Mado Sekiya, talked a lot about a horror movie he's never actually watched, which was funny enough. More importantly, he posted 19 seconds of work-in-progress battle footage.
