Splitgate dedicated servers will officially be closing down on August 29, but online features will remain accessible via peer-to-peer (P2P) hosting, allowing players to continue enjoying the multiplayer experience. Developed by 1047 Games, Splitgate is a Portal-inspired free-to-play sci-fi shooter that was released in early access on Steam in May 2019, with a console release and cross-platform matchmaking following it in June 2021. Over the course of its lifespan, the game enjoyed incredible critical success, though it struggled commercially.
In May 2025, 1047 Games released the Splitgate 2 open beta, which was quickly followed by a full release on June 6. Despite the initial hype, reception was mixed at best, with monetization issues and a lack of polish being cited as core concerns from the community. In July 2025, 1047 Games unlaunched Splitgate 2 and announced a return to open beta, acknowledging that the launch was way too early and the game was in need of major rework.
