Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake has gone gold, way ahead of its much-awaited launch on October 30, 2025. Announced in June 2024, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is an upgraded version of the original two games that came out in 1986 and 1987, respectively.
Following the success of 2018's Octopath Traveler and 2022's Live a Live, Square Enix gave the HD-2D treatment to its long-running Dragon Quest series. In November 2024, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake came out to highly positive reviews and also went on to become a commercial hit. Next, the Japanese gaming giant looks set to revive the remaining two games in the original Dragon Quest trilogy, with Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake's launch, completing the franchise's HD-2D remake trifecta.
