Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater appears to be off to a slow start, according to several indicators pointing to its early commercial performance. As things currently stand, the MGS 3: Snake Eater remake has a long way to go before it can so much as approach the success of MGS 5: Phantom Pain, which is estimated to have sold at least 10 million units since 2015.
First announced in May 2023, Metal Gear Solid Delta was released globally on August 28, 2025. As of this writing, it has been out for just under 72 hours.
While the initial wave of Metal Gear Solid Delta reviews was overwhelmingly positive, the game's commercial momentum currently does not appear to match its immense critical reception. That's according to several indicators, one of them being the concurrent player count tracked by SteamDB, which peaked at 19,634 people on release day. Though new games that launch near the end of the workweek tend to improve their concurrent player peak over their first weekend, that did not happen with the MGS 3 remake.
