Capcom Says Monster Hunter Wilds Failed, But It's PlayStation's Fault

As we approach the tail end of 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds remains one of the best games of the year.

During its launch, the game peaked at nearly 1.4 million active players on Steam, which is the fifth-highest all-time peak according to SteamDB. That's higher than Elden Ring, Dota 2, and Marvel Rivals.

By all accounts, Monster Hunter Wilds was a massive success. In March, Capcom announced that the game sold 8 million units in 3 days, becoming the fastest-selling game in Capcom's history. As of July 2025, the game has sold over 10 million copies, yet in the eyes of Capcom, the game has been, believe it or not, a failure.

Last month, Capcom deemed the title to be a failure, claiming that it failed to boost the sales of other games in the franchise when compared to Devil May Cry and Resident Evil. Now, they've identified the reason for its "failures."
