The Crew 1 Races Back From The Dead Thanks To Its Community

Released over 10 years ago in 2014, Ubisoft Ivory Tower's The Crew is going back online later this month—or at least, it'll try to.

Thanks to the modding community, the first game in the franchise is being revived with the title "The Crew Unlimited" or "TCU" for short.

This is a passion project that's aiming to be launched on September 15 on PC.

The Crew 1's Back From The Dead And Will Be Playable Online

In case you didn't know, The Crew was designed as an online-only game, so when Ubisoft pulled the servers in December 2024 (which ruffled enough feathers that the publisher was sued), this prompted a team of The Crew fans to band together as The TCU Team and work together to preserve the game.

The group's "best and only" solution? Write a server emulator that would effectively implement an offline and online mode back into the racing game. Offline mode will simply be a local server running on the player's computer while playing the game.

This means that save game data and your access to the game is fully dependent on you.
