Earlier this year, when Microsoft performed yet another round of mass layoffs, leaving thousands of people without a job, several video games were also canned as a result. One of the most notable was The Initiative's Perfect Dark reboot, which got an extensive gameplay trailer during last year's Xbox Game Showcase. It was later found to be largely fake, with a few real elements sprinkled in, but it was gameplay.
Even if it was misrepresented at the time, it was a promising slice of what the game could have looked like if it were to release, which made its cancellation all the more surprising. You'd assume that at least one big publisher out there would be willing to pick up the pieces on a project that looked so interesting and with so much hype around it, and that's apparently exactly what GTA 6 publisher Take-Two tried to do.
