Earlier this week Nintendo teased a 'new experience' on the Nintendo Switch which was not to be revealed in a traditional Nintendo Direct, but would however simply be announced via a video posted on their YouTube channel. It was also interesting to note that the announcement only came through their Japanese Twitter and UK website. The UK website also added that fans would “Tune in to discover a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specifically crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart.”
This was all revealed on the 17th of January to be Nintendo Labo, a brand new series of cardboard accessories. These accessories would need to be built by hand and interface with the Nintendo Switch in new and unique ways, such as turning the console into a piano, a camera, or a VR-esque robot suit, to name a few.
The first two releases in this line will be the ‘Variety Kit’ which comes with a selection of cardboard accessories including the aforementioned piano, a fishing rod, and house among others, along with the software for the console itself.
The second release will be the ‘Robot Kit’ which includes the previously mentioned VR-Robot suit and accompanying software.
They will both be released on the 20th of April, 2018, with the former being priced at $69.99 and the latter being sold at $79.99. There is no word on when the other kits which briefly featured in the trailer at various points will be released.
