I’ve been a huge Pokemon fan since the European launch of Pokemon Red and Blue (though I opted for Blue, I’m still an enormous Charizard enjoyer). The game where everything truly seemed to click for me, though, was Diamond and Pearl.
Three generations and over a decade later, it was in Sinnoh that I committed to starting to learn competitive play. That decision, which saw me maxing out the in-game clock, would lead to some great moments in my life and also a lot of flinching, misses, horribly timed critical hits, unlucky freezes, and all manner of other rage-inducing shenanigans.
Game Freak has revealed that, in Pokemon Legends Z-A, the much-anticipated Mega Evolutions of Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja will only be available (at least at first) as rewards for playing in Ranked Battle Seasons. Not only playing, but investing significant time and ranking up.
For a lot of players, I don’t think this is going to work out very well. I love silly Mega Evolutions, even hypothetical ones, but this is just too much.
