Borderlands 4 Performance Fixes Are Officially Coming, Despite Randy Rants

The launch of Borderlands 4 should have been a cause for celebration.

In our review, we called the game a return to form:

There was one aspect of the game, however, that we had concerns over: its performance. We mentioned that Borderlands 4 is pretty graphically demanding, so you'd better be ready for performance issues. It turns out we weren't the only ones to suffer from these problems.

Since launch, there have been a cavalcade of issues with the game's performance. NVIDIA put out an optimization guide in an attempt to help players. Last weekend saw a performance update patch, but it appears to have not done much. Randy Pitchford told players that, and I quote, "Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers," and that players "need to learn how their PC’s work at the high end for this specific game in 2025 and use the tools available to them to find the right balance between frame rate, resolution, and graphics features."

Pitchford also told fans unhappy with how the game was running to "get a refund." Some even decided to take matters into their own hands and develop mods that actually address the game's issues.
