Hollow Knight: Silksong Was Originally Going To Kick Things Off In The Marrow And Leave You To Fend For Yourself

Although it gets dark pretty quickly, the opening of Hollow Knight: Silksong is far brighter and more colorful than the start of the original game. That intentional, very deliberate decision by Team Cherry was made so we didn't have to kick things off in the more punishing Marrow, giving players the chance to start their journey in a place beyond The Citadel's grasp.

As promised, long before we knew we'd all be playing Silksong by September, the Hollow Knight sequel is currently playable as part of an Australian museum exhibition. As part of that exhibition, Silksong's creators, William Pellen and Ari Gibson, spoke with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image about just how Silksong came to be.

One of the biggest takeaways from the sequel so far, particularly for those who didn't play the first game, is how punishingly difficult it can be. There was a point during Silksong's development where The Marrow, the first big area you explore that's filled with legitimate threats to Hornet, was where the game began.
