Unreal Engine 5 gets a lot of flak these days, and while Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney claimed that it's a developer issue more than the engine itself, it's hard to shake that stigma when so many PC ports have launched in such a poor state. Silent Hill f, unfortunately, is no exception.
In a new review examining the game's performance, Digital Foundry described the experience as "OK, but needs improvement". And the first major red flag appears before you even hit the main menu.
The shader precompilation clocks in at only 30 seconds on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and 1 minute 13 seconds on an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. While a shorter load time might seem like a win, getting you into the thick of the fog sooner, the cracks of this approach almost immediately start to show.
