While Dune: Awakening wasn't the biggest launch of the year, it was definitely up there for MMO fans. Set in an alternate history version of Arrakis, the game allowed you to explore what it would be like to survive on the desert planet with warring factions and massive sandworms. Thanks to this combination, it became the biggest game in Fiuuncom's history.
Like any live-service game, Dune: Awakening has had its ups and downs, namely PvP griefers, cheaters, and endgame content, but has always managed to bounce back. Unfortunately, despite the MMO being the best thing that the studio has put out, Funcom will be undergoing layoffs. It seems even topping a studio's best achievement isn't enough to save jobs.
