Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an extraordinary game. I've been gushing about it since for going on two years, and that won't stop today. But there's an argument to be made - and it's been made many, many times - that the game is padded with multitudes of less engaging content, which drives the playtime up sky-high without offering a decent value proposition.
I'm no stranger to those sentiments, and I can appreciate them to an extent. There are stretches, like in Costa del Sol, when the minigames are a bit much. Relentless plot progress gates, rather than side content that doesn't get in the way. Naoki Hamaguchi, the FF7 Remake trilogy's overarching director, doesn't really agree with the notion that Rebirth stretches on too long. At the same time, though, he does foresee a third and final part that gets to the point a bit more by contrast.
