Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford didn't spend the week of Borderlands 4's launch celebrating (okay, maybe he did behind closed doors); he spent it arguing with PC players and even Notch over performance, offering up personal tech support. But when he wasn't telling them to turn off settings that don't exist or to get a refund, he was soaking up the fact that the team nailed the story.
As reported by 80.lv, speaking at PAX Australia 2025, Pitchford spoke freely about how happy he was to launch a new Borderlands that wasn't being slated for its writing. With dialled back toilet humour (literally, Skibidi was firmly off the table), Gearbox was able to strike a much better balance between serious and silly, letting the jokes breathe and the stakes take hold. It wasn't perfect, but coming off the back of Borderlands 3, it was a huge relief.
