Even though it might feel like there are still a lot of games to come before the end of 2025, it's going to be Game of the Year season before you know it. I don't think I'm out of line to say Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the betting favorite to win the GOTY with two months to go, but in a bizarre twist, the team behind 2025's biggest surprise hit isn't all that bothered about their first game winning the industry's biggest award.
Sandfall Interactive will, without question, leave The Game Awards with a ton of trophies. However, while speaking with PCGamesN, Clair Obscur's creative director, Guillaume Broche admitted that the Game of the Year award isn't something they're really aiming for.
"[GOTY] isn't something we really aim for; it should just be a consequence of making a good game, not really the goal," Broche explained. "Our philosophy is that we've already achieved so much more than we wanted to achieve. We've received so many beautiful messages from players around the world saying that the game changed their lives... [Expedition 33] was already a win because we've achieved this, so the award would be a nice little bonus."...
